The Classic Bridal Portrait

We like to describe our style as contemporary yet timeless and we are apt to say that we aren’t simply shooting for today but also for 20, 30 years from now.

If you have heard us speak about our style then you’ve probably heard us describe the table at the base of the staircase in our home and the importance of the classic bridal portrait.  On our credenza you will find framed bridal portraits of both of our parents (and our grandparents!) proudly displayed.  In all honesty, we have absolutely no idea who the photographers were — the images are timeless and iconic nonetheless.  It’s amazing how beautiful Ellie’s grandmother’s dress was in the 1930’s and the photographs make us both smile whenever we walk by.

If you review our blog images, you will see that on the wedding day, we typically complete this photograph pre-ceremony while a bride is preparing or as part of the family formals process.  However, another option that we really recommend is a session in our studio on 14th Street in downtown Wheeling prior to the wedding day.

But why do a studio session?  Practically-speaking, it’s a great dry run on a day when there’s no rush or pressure.  A test, if you will, for hair, make-up and final dress fit.   In addition to your maid-of-honor or bridesmaids, feel free to bring your make-up artist or stylist to the studio to assist. We have a comfortable studio for preparation.  Also, a print from the session makes for a great display alongside engagement photographs at your reception venue.

And maybe, someday, you’ll have children (and grandchildren!) with a credenza at the bottom of the stairs…
